Monday Message: From Deniesha Johnson honoring Martin Luther King Jr
Original Post Date: January 16, 2017 | Deniesha Johnson
Today we honor and celebrate Dr. King’s life, achievements, and contribution to the civil rights movement. Dr. King had a dream of a color-blind society and worked toward achieving racial equality in the United States.
While some feel like we still have a ways to go, blurring the lines of the racial divide, we have seen so many changes... especially in marriage equalities and not just in racial but sexual orientation. However, let's not just honor King and the civil rights efforts only just this one day but every day, and let us continue to work toward equality, love and peace among all.
Interesting wedding fact about Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King; they spent their honeymoon in a funeral home. At the time of their marriage in 1953, honeymoon suites were unavailable to African Americans. Because of this, the couple spent their wedding night in a funeral home owned by a friend. How thankful are we that they fought for our equality and the opportunity to spend our honeymoon in a suite catered to our new love!!
